Little Bobtail Lake fire evacuation alert

As of midnight Monday a Little Bobtail Lake Fire Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.

The affected area is south of Highway 16 from Sob Lake Road to the eastern boundary of the of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako south to the end of Naltesby Lake including the areas of Blackwater Road, Bobtail Forest Service Road, Bobtail Connector Forest Service Road, Sob Lake Road, and the Cluculz Lake area.

What do do while this alert is in effect:

- Locate all family members or co-workers and plan to meet outside the evacuation area, should an evacuation be called while separated.

- Gather essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (i.e. insurance), immediate care needs for dependents and, if you choose, keepsakes (photographs, etc). Have these items readily available for quick departure.

- Prepare to move any disabled persons and/or children.

- Move pets and livestock to a safe area.

- Arrange to transport your household members or co-workers in the event of an evacuation order. If you are evacuated and need transportation assistance from the area call 250-692-3195 or 1-800-320-3339, or call Emergency Management BC at 1-800-663-3456.

Arrange accommodation for your family if possible. In the event of an evacuation, a Reception Centre will be opened if required. Monitor your local radio station and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako website, www.rdbn.bc.ca for information on this evacuation order.

The 2,700 hectare Little Bobtail wildlife is challenging wildfire personnel who are working 2.5 kilometres south of Norman Lake and 50 kilometres southwest of Prince George.


The firefieghters worked through the night on a guard around the south side of the fire's perimeter.


Four helicopters are on site today, providing bucketing support to crews on the ground.


There are structural protection units being deployed.


Sustained action crews, an incident management team and support staff totalling more than 100 are en route.


Smoke from the fire is visible from Highway 16 and surrounding communities, including Prince George, Quesnel and Williams Lake.


An evacuation order remains in place for areas near Little Bobtail Lake and Naltesby Lake by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako and an alert is in place for areas north and west of Little Bobtail Lake and Naltesby Lake.
