Singers who are ready to step into the limelight need to take the plunge quickly as the registration deadline for the solo singing contest Limelight Quest is Tuesday at midnight.

Besides the great prizes offered to the top four competitors, soloist auditions take place in front of a live audience at Cowboy Ranch beginning Aug. 7 where a point system sees audiences decide on the fate of the singers and top four highest scores move vocalists into the semi-finals.

The finale takes place at the British Columbia Northern Exhibition on Friday, Aug. 18, where the winners are chosen.

The list of prizes for the top four performers include a trophy, cash, live performance opportunities including festival performances at Robson Valley and Coldsnap and a radio feature, recording studio time, a photo shoot, vocal lessons to hone their skills and a superstar gift pack including all kinds of swag.

Creator of the Limelight Quest is Dawn Boudreau, who said she understands how busy it's been in Prince George due to the wildfire evacuees but wants to make sure word gets out about the contest.

"I just don't want people to miss out on the fun," Boudreau said. "It's always such a fun event, especially the networking for all the people who enter the contest. That's one of the biggest things I hear as far as the feedback I get. It's the friendships they form and the people they meet and the confidence they get for getting their own shows."

Some contestants will get together to perform in a showcase of talent and others approach venues they never would have considered before they competed in the Limelight Quest.

The contest offers a taste of professionalism that some singers might not have had a chance to experience before the contest.

"Recording and having opportunities like performing at Robson Valley and the Coldsnap festivals are great for professional development," Boudreau said, who also offers video conference coaching sessions to each contestant before they even hit the stage.

Before the finale, the finalists who perform at the fair get to visit different locales on site during a photo shoot and that always adds to the excitement leading up to the grand event, Boudreau said.

"It's just a lot of fun and offers such a great opportunity for those competing."

Boudreau encourages anyone interested to sign up.

"I'd really like to see a few more singers come into the mix," she added. "I just want to reach out and make sure as many singers as possible get the opportunity to participate."
