Saturday night's thunderstorm not only woke local residents, but it also kept wildfire crews busy.
According to fire information officer Erin Catherall, seven small lightning-caused fires were ignited by the weekend storm, all less than a couple hectares in size.
"These fires are less than hectare or a couple of hectares in size and crews are responding," said Catherall.
The weekend didn't produce any more wildfires note in the region, leaving the 250-hectare Peta Mountain blaze as the most significant.
That fire, about 20 kilometres north of Fraser Lake, was discovered Aug. 5 and Catherall said crews were making good progress.
"[Saturday], due to favourable weather conditions, there were able to do burn-off operations," she said, adding that Sunday was dedicated to mop up and - if the weather held - more burn-off operations.
While an open fire ban is still going in the Prince George Fire Centre, campfires are allowed as long as they're no larger than 0.5 metre large and users have eight litres of water or a shovel nearby to put the fire out. Campfires should be completely cold to the touch, said Catherall, before leaving the site.
