Lightning sparks forest fires

Ten new forest fires flared up over the weekend, Prince George Fire Centre spokeswoman Jillian Chimko said in a press release, all in the Fort Nelson zone and all caused by lightning.

"None of the fires are near or threatening any structures at this time," Chimko said. "Seven of the 10 fires have been put out. Two fires are currently being suppressed with a total of 25 fire fighters fighting the fires. The last fire is currently in modified response and is being monitored."

The fire danger rating throughout the Prince George Fire Centre is mainly low to moderate. However, there are areas of high in the northern portion of the fire centre.
