The Winter City Committee at Prince George city hall has a program in which residents can nominate friends or neighbours who help light up their life.
"Nominating your neighbour for their winter or Christmas light display is not a competition, but rather a recognition of those who put in lot of effort to light up our long nights," said Cheryl Livingstone-Leman, city recreation co-ordinator.
People fill out a simple form at city hall and hand it to a city service centre clerk.
"They'll be given a recognition plaque that they can present to the person they nominated," said Livingstone-Leman.
She said the plaque can be displayed in widows, on doors or other sites inside or outside the home.
