Light up winter

Prince George's Winter Cities Committee is calling for grant applications for residents to participate in the WinterLights celebration.

Prince George's Winter Cities Committee is calling for grant applications for residents to participate in the WinterLights celebration. Grants for events or displays with a winter theme focus are available to a maximum of $1,000 when participants provide 50 per cent of the project costs.

WinterLights is a national competition encouraging municipalities to celebrate light with decorative, cultural or spiritual programs to help foster civic pride and tourism opportunities.

Some project ideas offered by Cheryl Livingstone-Leman, city recreation co-ordinator, are:

*Decorating a neighbourhood with a winter lights theme.

*Window decorations in small businesses.

*Special events organized around a winter theme.

* Your own ideas are welcome.

Deadline for the grant applications is 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

To obtain application forms call the city at 250-561-7640 or visit the web site at www.city.pg.bc.ca. Click on residents information followed by winterlights.
