Prince George was on the lips of two candidates for the B.C. Liberal Party leadership, this past weekend.

On Sunday it was disclosed by challenger Kevin Falcon that he would be personally making a special announcement in B.C.'s northern capital Monday morning at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the Coast Inn of the North.

Also on Sunday, challenger Dr. Moira Stilwell promised to invest in the College of New Caledonia, should she become premier-elect. She announced she would pump $10 million into CNC for new Civil Engineering and Bioenergy related programs. Stilwell was a specialist in cancer and women's health during her pre-political medical career. Education is a key to her leadership bid.

"The College of New Caledonia is now well positioned to expand the pool of technologists and technicians by focusing on other areas of skills training needed in the natural resources, manufacturing, construction and energy sectors," she said.

CNC President John Bowman said he welcomed Stilwell's proposal, saying it opened the door for a wide range of new opportunities.

"We would like to see Dr. Stilwell's proposal become a reality. I hear almost every day from business and industry leaders that the training of technologists in Northern B.C. is a critical need for them," he said.

Dr. Stilwell had already proposed reducing the interest rate on student loans in B.C.

"This is in line with two of the key positions in my policy platform - building a knowledge based economy and helping low income families and individuals, which students with large debt tend to be," said Stilwell.

According to a statement from her campaign office, she is scheduled to be in Prince George and Quesnel Monday and Tuesday but no details were provided.
