A Prince Rupert man was sentenced this week to 70 days in jail for his role in a break and enter that left the Prince George branch of the Royal Canadian Legion with thousands of dollars in damage.
Julien Erik Natsuk, 22, must also serve one year probation as part of the sentence issued Monday in Prince George court for one count each of mischief to property and possession of stolen property.
Accomplice Jordan Neil Shaw, 20, from Prince George, was sentenced Aug. 13 to 28 days in jail and 18 months probation, also on one count each of mischief to property and possession of stolen property.
Both are repeat offenders, although it's the first time Natsuk has been convicted of a crime committed in Prince George. Natsuk has remained in custody since his arrest.
RCMP arrested the two during the early morning of Aug. 12 when an RCMP member spotted two suspicious men near the corner of 20th Avenue and Spruce Street. Further investigation uncovered items belonging to the Legion in their possession.
They also left between $6,000 and $7,000 damage, according to Legion president Bruce Gabriel, who said they went through the location with a crowbar, breaking doors and into the back bar area and the Keno machines.
They made off with about $1,800 cash as well as liquor and items with the Legion emblems on them.
The Legion is continuing to work with the insurance company, Gabriel said Thursday.
The location at 1164 Sixth Ave. was opened in April.
