Convicted serial killer Cody Alan Legebokoff has filed an appeal of his conviction of the murders of three women and a teenaged girl in Prince George and area.

The appeal was filed Thursday in the B.C. Court of Appeal in Vancouver along with an application for an extension of the time in which an appeal may be commenced, criminal justice branch spokesman Neil Mackenzie confirmed.

Mackenzie was unable to elaborate on the basis for the appeal.

"I can't properly speak to the grounds, given it is a defence appeal," Mackenzie said.

Legebokoff was sentenced in September to life in prison without eligibility to apply for parole for 25 years for the first degree murders Stacey Stuchenko, 35, Natasha Montgomery, 24, Cynthia Maas, 35, and Loren Leslie, 15.

A jury found him guilty of the charges following a three-and-half-month trial at the Prince George courthouse.

Leslie's father, Doug, said Friday the families of the victims will learn the details of the appeal during a conference call on Monday.
He said he was surprised Legebokoff would taken the action given the amount of evidence supporting the verdict.
"He must be just stupid," Leslie said.
