The Justice Education Society have awared Charles Dan of Quesnel and Krista Morrison of Prince George the 2010 Legal Eagle Award.

The awards were present Friday by provincial court judge Thomas Crabtree at the Prince George courthouse.

The Legal Eagle Award recognizes outstanding initiative and leadership shown by Aboriginal youth working towards crime prevention and social justice issues in their community.

Charles is recognized for his outstanding work with traditional aboriginal justice and Krista for her outstanding work in community youth outreach.

"We're celebrating Aboriginal youth making significant contributions to their communities," said Joan Brett, coordinator of the Society's northern region. "Hopefully this recognition is just a first step towards Charles and Krista becoming prominent leaders."

The award can also inspire British Columbians to become engaged citizens that are involved in their communities, according to Rick Craig, the Society's executive director.

"Charles and Krista are working to make BC's justice system better able to meet the needs of our province's Aboriginal communities," he said. "Their vision, leadership and dedication deserve to be celebrated."

Established in 1989, the Justice Education Society is dedicated to improving access to the justice system through hands-on, targeted, two-way education between the public and those working in the system.
