Prince George is on the road to health thanks to this weekend's Healthier You Expo, brought to you by The Citizen, MLA Shirley Bond, and the Immigrant and

Multicultural Services Society (IMSS).

The well-being extravaganza happens Sunday at the Civic Centre starting at 10 a.m., and admission is free.

The fifth annual event features keynote speaker Dr. Art Hister, a former correspondent for BBC Radio and CBC Newsworld, and current health analyst for Global TV and Vancouver's CKNW radio.

"[Dr. Hister] has been terrific in coming to the North to talk to us about how to live longer and healthier lives," said Bond. "He's humorous, but also extremely factual and compelling."

Hister's popularity at last year's expo led organizers to book him for two engagements Sunday, the first at 11 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m.

"My passion is to get everyone - infants, teens, midlifers and seniors - to understand that they have the power in themselves to significantly improve their chances of living longer and living in better health - they don't need pills, or potions or even doctors' help," said Hister.

Hister promises to stay and answer any and all questions the audience might have.

"I love the North, and without any doubt, some of my best audience reaction has been from skeptical Northern BCers," said Hister.

This is the third year that IMSS has partnered with the expo.

"We joined hands because it's a bigger exposure and more access for the ethnocultural community to enjoy the information and hear reputable speakers," said IMSS executive director Baljit Sethi. With the IMSS's involvement, there will be opportunities for presentations on chronic disease at the Sikh temple in Punjabi as well as a translation of the presentation on cancer.

Also offering his advice during a speaking engagement is Jim Sherb, a member of the Canadian Snowbirds Association. Sherb hopes to educate Canadian travellers on the importance of defending their rights.

Sherb has had a long career in resource management, as an employee with the British Columbia Ministry of Forests. Sherb served on the forestry advisory board at the College of New Caledonia, as a director of forestry continuing studies at the University of Northern B.C., and as a facilitator with the forest management institute of B.C.
