Federal New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton spent part of his visit to Prince George on Tuesday taking the Conservatives to task over the decision to give provinces billions of dollars in cash incentive to adopt the harmonized sales tax.

"The H in HST stands for Harper, let's not forget about that," said Layton while standing Lois Boone at his side in front of the constituency office for now-retired Prince George-Peace River Conservative MP Jay Hill.

If the federal government had not bribed British Columbia with taxpayers money, the controversy would never have erupted in the first place, said Layton, because British Columbia would never have agreed to harmonize its provincial sales tax with the federal goods and services tax.
