A long-running legal battle between a Prince George man and BC Hydro over the appearance of the utility's Chief Lake substation has come to an end.

An order was filed March 8 stating that the proceeding be dismissed by consent of both parties.

It further states that is be without costs to any party and that the dismissal is "for all purposes of the same force and effect as if judgment had been pronounced after a hearing of this action on its merits."

In a notice of claim filed in September 2017, Peter Houghton alleges that Hydro's decision to remove all the vegetation from around the substation has decreased if not eliminated the enjoyment of his own land and significantly reduced its value.

But in a response filed in November, Hydro said the work was done for safety reasons and that it has the legal right to carry out such work.
