Dentists practising at Lakewood Dental Group will be setting up shop at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) for the summer while their home goes through a major renovation starting near the end of this month.
Located on 15th Avenue near Ospika Boulevard, the building's general dentistry area, which holds 27 chairs, will go through an extensive upgrade starting May 27 and lasting until Aug. 7.
"We're completely redoing everything, right down to the office chairs," Lakewood Dental chief executive officer Hans Minck said.
The new digs will house up-to-date equipment that recent graduates from dentistry school are familiar with. Many of them are coming out of the University of British Columbia, which is home of one of Canada's state-of-the-art facilities.
"So it's pretty hard to recruit people to a place where it's archaic," said Minck, who declined to say how much the work will cost.
Two dentists working out of Lakewood Dental are behind the new building under construction on Fifth Avenue near Ospika, but Minck said that project has nothing to do with Lakewood Dental's decision to renovate.
"None of it's related," Minck said. "Just the same thing kind of happened at the same time."
With the city's population growing, there is a need for more dentists, Minck said.
Patients booking for the summer months are being advised to go to CNC's dental wing.
