Lakeland fund rises to $155,000

Three weeks after an explosion and fire destroyed the Lakeland Mills sawmill, fundraising to help employees and their families has reached the $155,000 mark, the Prince George Community Foundation said Monday.

"Donations continue at a steady pace and we are now seeing some of the money raised through fundraisers emerging as donations," said foundation executive director Judy Neiser.

Funding from the past week include a fun night at Foothills elementary and a pancake breakfast at Kelly Road secondary, along with donations from International Quest Engineering, where employee donations were matched, and Prince George Minor Lacrosse.

Meanwhile, the 10,000 "We remember Lakeland Mills" wristbands have arrived and are available for $2 each at Tabor Pharmacy, Ruckus Bike Shop, Tabor Pizza, JJ Springer, Kathy's Quilt Shop

and Auto Magic.

Several other efforts are continuing:

n Save On Foods has a coordinated effort from their four locations in Prince George for shoppers to round up their grocery bill to the nearest dollar from now through to this Saturday.

n J.J. Springer has promoted to their customers the ability to turn in their

points for cash that will go towards the fund.

n Homesteader Meats has donation envelopes and a drop off location for donations.

n On Thursday, Westwood Sports Pub is hosting a fundraiser, silent Auction and raffle for a four-wheeler with a percentage of proceeds going to the fund.

n Gamescape at the Hart Mall has a gaming tournament planned for Friday, where

proceeds from the event will go to the fund.

n Blackburn Community Hall is organizing a benefit for the fund being held June 9.

n Original Joes is coordinating a donation as part of their proceeds from their grand opening for the fund.

The Prince George Community Foundation was designated as a central agency to accept

donations.

Individual donations can be made through the Foundation's website. Go to www.pgcf.ca and click on the red "Donate Now" button and designate it to go to the Lakeland Fire Assistance Fund or by cheque made payable to The Prince George Community Foundation and mailed to PO Box 1204 Station A, Prince George, BC V2L 4V3 or by calling (250) 562-7772.

The Foundation can also take a transfer of securities.
