The generosity of Prince George is showing no signs of diminishing.

The Lakeland Fire Assistance Fund has reached the $300,000 mark as donations continue to pour in.

Over the past two weeks, the Prince George Community Foundation administering the fund received contributions from a student-driven fundraising project at Highglen Montessori elementary school; employees of McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd., organized a raffle; Justin Bullied of Northfall Productions handed over proceeds of a heavy metal concert May 21 at Artspace that featured Slaughterfall, Noordvall, Seraphic Nihilist and Vale of Hinnom; the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum gathered funds during a weekend kickoff to mining week; and Gamescape video game store in the Hart area donated money raised in a weekend gaming tournament.

Wristbands stamped with the words, "We remember Lakeland Mills" are on sale for $2 each at Tabor Pharmacy, Integris Credit Union, Ruckus Bike Shop, Tabor Pizza, JJ Springer, Kathy's Quilt Shop, Foothills Foods and Auto Magic.

The fund will be used to help employees of Lakeland Mills and their families. An explosion and fire on April 23 at Lakeland's sawmill destroyed the mill and left 150 employees facing an uncertain future. Lakeland workers Glenn Roche and Alan Little died as result of their injuries and 22 others were injured.

Donors can go to www.pgcf.ca to contribute to the fund, or mail a cheque to P.O. Box 1204, Station A, Prince George, V2L 4V3. Call 250-562-7772 for more information.
