Young people in Ladner were protesting the loss of their local gathering spot.

Let’s head back to July 1970 when local youth were upset about losing their Ladner hangout.

Protesters marched down Delta Street to convey their dissatisfaction about the upcoming tearing down of the old Legion hall, between 47th and 47A avenues, where they had been getting together to hold their “Deltateen” gatherings.

The old hall was being torn down to make way for a new community hall.

Delta’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 headquarters was to be relocated to the premises on Delta Street that September. The building was formerly occupied by the Ladner Liquor Store.
