The Rotary Club of Prince George Yellowhead has made a $25,000 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society's Kordyban Lodge.
All of the funds were raised at the Taste of India event held in February 2011.
The sold out event brought in more than 600 guests who dined on Indian food, experienced Indian culture and participated in a live auction.
Rotary members came up with the idea to host an evening with authentic East Indian culture, cuisine, music, dancing and entertainment," said Bill Hellyer, past president of Yellowhead Rotary.
"As a Rotary, we are trying to raise funds and support something that is worthwhile to the community and last year we thought the Kordyban Lodge was really something worth supporting," said Albert Koehler, Yellowhead Rotary president.
The goal for the next event is to come up with the same amount or more.
"$25,000 is quite an amount for us and for the lodge. It's quite a large amount and we are pleased to be able to hand it over," said Koehler.
Half of the money raised at the 2012 Taste of India will again be donated to the lodge while the other half will be used to outfit two schools in Amreli, India with clean drinking water, sanitary washroom facilities and desks.
Tickets for the Feb. 18, 2012 Taste of India are available at RK Furniture Gallery.
