Kinsley joins Spirit of the North board

Having served nine years as Prince George mayor from 1999 to 2008, Colin Kinsley knows a thing or two about running successful election campaigns.

That winning streak continued Wednesday night when Kinsley was elected to a two-year term as a director with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

Now the head of his own business, Kinsley Consulting, Kinsley joined John Bowman of the College of New Caledonia and Trevor Slaney of Houg Slaney law firm as newly-elected board members at the non-profit society's annual general meeting.

Judy Jackson, a constituency assistant for Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell, and Diane Rogers of Canaccord Independent Wealth Management, a Spirit of the North past-president, were reelected to the board. Paul Stewart of Gulbrandson Logging in Vanderhoof, and Rhonda Loose of the UHNBC Auxiliary were appointed to the board as regional representatives.

They join existing Spirit of the North board directors Darren Masse, Hugh Nicholson, Trevor Lutes, Andrea Rosa, Shane Lapierre, Michele Santos (Calogheros), Tom Sentes and past-president Carol Beebe.

Also serving on the board is Dr. Michelle Sutter, as medical community representative, and Finlay Sinclair, who represents Northern Health.

Ron Epp of KPMG released the results of an audit of the Foundation's financial statements for the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2011, which revealed Northern Health had gross revenues of $2.82 million and issued grants that totaled $1.36 million to UHNBC and other Northern Health facilities in northern B.C.

The Foundation handed out Spirit of the North Awards of Merit to past-presidents Rogers, Myron Sambad, Harry Backlin, Tom Griffiths, and the late Del Laverdure, whose award was accepted by his wife Vickie.
