A Kamloops teen who jumped in the Thompson River to avoid arrest has been located safe and sound in Prince George.

A Kamloops teen who jumped in the Thompson River to avoid arrest has been located safe and sound in Prince George.

The 16-year-old girl, who was wanted in connection with a Kamloops RCMP investigation into a bike theft, jumped into the river on June 29 while being taken into custody.

"The girl escaped custody from police and entered the river prior to being placed in handcuffs," Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said.

She was last was seen swimming toward Rabbit Island.

The ongoing investigation led police to locate the girl in Prince George.

The Independent Investigations Office, the provincial watchdog that investigates police-related deaths or harm, which had been notified and were monitoring this case have been appraised of the latest developments.
