Just a few drips short

After the six-week Canadian Blood Services Interior Drive for Life Challenge (IDFL), Prince George finished a very close second behind its competitor, Kelowna.

"Even though Prince George did not win IDFL this summer, this was an incredibly exciting and inspiring challenge this year," said Tamara Sweet, Prince George partnership specialist.

Kelowna won the 2011 challenge, reaching 106.5 per cent of its challenge goal.

Prince George was the runner up, reaching 106.3 per cent of its challenge goal.

"Overall, the challenge helped collect an extra 106 units of blood over the past six weeks, which helps keep our blood banks full and healthy for hospital patients in need. Both cities should be proud of what they accomplished this summer," said Sweet.

For the first time, the challenge kept track of new donors giving blood throughout the challenge. Prince George was the winner in that competition, having collected 136.0 per cent of its challenge goal to date.

Kelowna came in close behind, collecting 135.3 per cent of its challenge goal.

The Prince George blood donor clinic is located at 2277 Westwood Drive and is always looking for blood donors.
