Jury chosen for Sweder's second trial

A jury was selected Monday at Prince George courthouse for a murder trial that's expected to last eight weeks.

With Crown counsel to call as many as 22 witnesses, the best guess is that the trial for Jesse Norman Sweder, accused of shooting to death Peter John Letendre, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett told onlookers just prior to the selection process.

In a process that took nearly two hours, a jury of 10 men and two women, as well as two women alternates was selected. Testimony is scheduled to begin on Thursday morning.

After a hung jury was reached in July 2010 following seven weeks of testimony, Sweder is facing a second trial. Letendre, whose body was found on Norwood Street near 20th Avenue on Dec. 11, 2004.

Crown prosecutors in this trial are Alexander MacDonell and Nick Barber and the defence lawyers at Jim Heller and Jeremy Fung.
