Prince George has just endured its third wettest June on record.
It rained on 21 of the month's 30 days and by the time it was over, 123.1 millimetres had fallen on the city, 169 per cent of normal, Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele said Tuesday.
Only in 1993, when there was 157.3 mm, and in 1983, when there was 145.4 mm, had more rain fall during the month of June in Prince George.
The wettest days last month were June 6, with 20.3 mm, June 11, with 17.5 mm and June 16 with 25.1 mm, which was a record for the day, shattering the old mark of 16 mm set in 1980.
A further 10.3 mm fell on Saturday and the trend continued over the long weekend as rainfall for the three-day span added up to 29.8 mm.
"We've been plagued by these upper disturbances that are tracking in off the Pacific, moving across southern or central British Columbia," Steele said. "And they're packing lots of moisture with them."
However, anyone worried this coming month will be a repeat of July last year, which was the fourth wettest on record, should be able to breath easy as the outlook is for a more normal next two months.
For temperature, the daytime highs should strike 22 Celsius for the first part of July and then rise to 24-25 C, and then backing off to 22 C towards the end of August.
Days above 20 C typically add up to 20 in July and 19 in August and one day each month should rise above 30 C.
For rain, there are usually 14 days of measurable precipitation in July adding up to 64 mm and for August, 13 days and 51 mm.
"And thunderstorms? Well, what's a summer without thunderstorms?" said Steele. "Typically, in July, you'll get five days with thunderstorms and in August you'll get four days with thunderstorms."
Last month's rain appeared to have little effect on the temperature.
The average daily high was 18.5 C, just below the normal of 19.5 C, the average daily low of 7.7 C was above the normal of 7.0 C and the mean temperature of 13.1C was near the normal 13.3 C.
The warmest day was June 22 with a daytime high of 27.2 C and the coldest was June 1 with an overnight low of 2.4 C.
