Jubilee Lodge COVID outbreak has claimed five lives

More than 100 new coronavirus cases reported in the Northern Health region on Thursday

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Jubilee Lodge has claimed three lives since the last public update on Sept. 10.
A total of five residents of the long-term care facility have died as a result of COVID-19, a statement issued by Northern Health on Thursday said.
As of Thursday, 20 residents and three staff members at the facility have tested positive for COVID-19, and four other cases among residents have been epidemiologically linked due to exposure with a confirmed case.
“Northern Health extends condolences to their family, friends and caregivers,” a statement issued by the health authority said. “Enhanced outbreak control measures remain in effect at Jubilee Lodge. Northern Health Public Health is closely monitoring for additional cases, and the facility is taking steps to protect the health of staff and those they care for…”
One new COVID-related death was reported in the Northern Health region on Thursday. It was unclear if the death was related to the Jubilee Lodge outbreak.
As of Thursday, the pandemic had claimed 166 lives in the Northern Health region, according to data reported by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. A total of 1,877 people in B.C. have died as a result of COVID-19.
The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 104 new cases of COVID-19 in the north on Thursday. The number of active cases in the region rose slightly to 857.
A total of 45 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, of which 14 were listed in intensive care by the B.C. CDC.
As of Thursday, 86.3 per cent of eligible British Columbians (ages 12 and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 78.8 per cent were fully vaccinated.
Nearly 7.66 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, including 341,557 doses in the Northern Health region.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 10,201 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, of which 9,169 people have recovered.
On Wednesday, data released by the B.C. CDC showed that during the week of Sept. 5 to Sept. 11, there were 247 new cases of COVID-19 in the Prince George local health area, which includes Mackenzie and the Robson Valley.
The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 706 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. on Thursday, with 5,844 cases remaining active. A total of 291 British Columbians were hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 134 were in intensive care.
Between Sept. 8 and Sept. 14, 68.1 per cent of new COVID-19 infections were in unvaccinated people, eight per cent were in those partially vaccinated, and 23.9 per cent were breakthrough cases in fully vaccinated people.
Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 14, 81.5 per cent of those hospitalized with COVID-19 were unvaccinated, 4.9 per cent were partially vaccinated and 13.6 per cent were fully vaccinated. 
On a per capita basis, the unvaccinated were roughly 11 times as likely to contract COVID-19 as fully vaccinated people, and nearly 36 times as likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19, the B.C. Ministry of Health reported.
