The job vacancy rate in the Cariboo economic region stood at 3.2 per cent for the second quarter of the year, according to Statistics Canada numbers issued Friday.
For the province as a whole, it was 3.3 per cent and nationally, it was 2.8 per cent.
In British Columbia, there were a total of 66,420 job vacancies in the second quarter, of which 2,220 were in the Cariboo, Statistics Canada labour market analyst Elton Cyderman said.
In the region, which includes Prince George, Quesnel and Williams Lake, most of the vacancies were in the sales and service category, at just under 1,000, Cyderman said.
Broken down further, he said 245 of those vacancies were for food counter attendants, 130 for sales people, 110 for chefs and cooks and 100 for food and beverage servers.
The category with the second highest number of vacancies was trades, transport and equipment operators, where there were 440 openings. In this occupation group, heavy equipment operators had the most job vacancies with about 220.
Nationally, the average offered wage was $18.80. For British Columbia, this was slightly lower at $18. In Cariboo, the average wage offered for vacant positions was $19.15.
