A 19-year-old Prince George man was sentenced Monday to a further four days in jail for stealing a vehicle and crashing it as he attempted to evade police.
Aaron Mickey had spent a total of 14 days in custody prior to sentencing in provincial court on the Aug. 25 incident.
Mickey had come across the vehicle at a 700-block 17th Avenue home and upon discovering the keys had been left inside, took it, according to an RCMP statement at the time.
About 10 minutes after receiving a report of the theft, RCMP spotted the vehicle near 20th and Hemlock. RCMP said officers called off the pursuit when Mickey refused to pull over. But a few minutes after he fled the area, he ran the car into a fence at 20th Avenue and Hemlock Street.
Mickey then fled on foot but was found hiding near an 1800-block Gorse Street home, RCMP said.
Mickey was released from custody on an undertaking the next day but by Sept. 13 he was back in custody for allegedly breaching its conditions and had remained there ever since.
Mickey was sentenced on one count each of theft of a motor vehicle, mischief $5,000 or under and flight from a peace officer. He was also prohibited from driving for 18 months, sentenced to one year probation and assessed $300 in victim surcharges.
