Jail term issued for theft from bait car

An attempted theft from an RCMP bait car has earned a Prince George man 47 days in jail. Darryl David Basil, 34, was issued the term Monday in Prince George provincial court for theft $5,000 or under.

An attempted theft from an RCMP bait car has earned a Prince George man 47 days in jail.

Darryl David Basil, 34, was issued the term Monday in Prince George provincial court for theft $5,000 or under.

He was arrested Saturday after he was caught on video taking items from inside a bait car located downtown.

He was also sentenced to 10 days in jail for possession of a controlled substance after a small quantity of crack cocaine was found on him. He was also assessed $200 in victim fine surcharges.

According to the RCMP, the local detachment has access to the largest bait car fleet in North America through its partnership with the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team.
