Former UNBC president Charles Jago is now front and centre in the ongoing labour dispute between teachers and the provincial government.

Jago has been appointed as the mediator and has until June 30 to reach a deal within the government's net-zero mandate or submit a report containing non-binding recommendations. If no agreement is reached, the government will impose a contract on teachers that would expire on June 30, 2013.

Jago is well known to Prince George, having served 12 years as UNBC president. He succeeded founding president Geoffrey Weller in 1997 and held the executive position until he retired in 2006. Jago returned as president in June 2008, following the resignation of Don Cozzetto, and carried out those duties until current UNBC president George Iwama took over in July 2009.

Jago is currently chair of the Northern Health board of governors, having been re-appointed to a second three-year term in 2010.
