Helping local businesses prepare for a larger-than-normal customer base during the two weeks of the 2015 Canada Winter Games is the focus of an upcoming workshop hosted by Initiatives Prince George.
"The Canada Winter Games will offer retail, hospitality and other service businesses many opportunities to showcase their products and generate additional business, but success is not a given," said Ted Topping, Creative Insights president, who will be leading the three-hour sessions on Sept. 9 and 10. "The profitability of that additional business could easily be destroyed if a business has too little, too much or even just the wrong staff or product offerings when the guests arrive."
The workshop, Planning Your Staffing and Inventory for the 2015 Games, is the third in a series put on by IPG in advance of the February event, in partnership with Northern Development Initiative Trust, Downtown Prince George and Community Futures Fraser-Fort George.
Among the topics to be covered during the workshop include: dealing with higher-than-usual traffic; seeing a business from a guest's perspective; offering unique, 2015 Games-worthy products and/or services; using the apprenticeship method of staff training to get new employees up to speed quickly; and planning staffing and inventory by looking at the experiences of businesses located near the 2011 Canada Winter Games host community in Halifax.
To register for one of the three available workshop sessions (at a cost of $35 per person), visit http://pgc.cc/1oIHOUz. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. this Friday.
