A big fire was followed by small parcels of information, the day after two Prince George businesses were gutted.
On Monday, the Prince George Fire Rescue Service (PGFRS) was no closer to knowing what caused the blaze that tied up their crews for hours the day before. It wasn't for lack of motivation, but a need to establish the safety of the investigators in the fresh relic of Boston Pizza and Blockbuster Video on Central Street.
"Investigators viewed the site today with a structural engineer to assess the safety of the site. They determined that parts of the burned out building will be safe to enter," said Chief Fire Prevention Officer Dennis Perrault. "Investigators will start searching through the remains of the fire [this] morning."
There is still no cost estimate as to the damage suffered by the two buildings.
The only hint as to the cause came from PGFRS Assistant Chief Darrell Kloschinsky who noted "On arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the eaves on three sides of the building," and "on initial entry, fire crews determined the fire was located in the roof of the structure."
Twenty firefighters from four halls responded to the fire. Off- duty crews were called in to stand guard at vacant halls in case of other incidents.
There are no reported injuries.
