A police investigation into a fatal collision on Highway 97 at Austin Road late last month remains ongoing.

Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said this week it will be some time yet before police can determine whether charges will be pursued.

"It's still under investigation, we're waiting on reports that could take awhile so there's nothing further to report at this point," Douglass said. "But it's not concluded, it is under investigation still."

Cody Dal Martin Diebold, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene on the night of May 28 following a collision between his car and a pickup truck.

According to a redacted RCMP report provided to The Citizen by a different source, one of the vehicles was turning left and the other was heading straight.

In the unredacted portion at least, it does not say outright which one was turning but it does show Diebold's car, a 1993 Volkwagen Golf, suffered damage to the driver's front side, while the pickup, a 2006 GMC Sierra, suffered damage to the front and driver's side front quarter panel, indicating the pickup was turning and T-boned Diebold's car.

Deibold was heading south and the pickup's driver was going north, according to a press release issued by the B.C. Coroners Service the day after the incident.

The name of the truck's driver was not shown in the unredacted section.

The stretch was closed for several hours over the night of the incident as RCMP investigators gathered evidence.
