Building a nature lover's headquarters is an idea growing among local conservationists.
A meeting has been called for Oct. 11 to gauge overall local interest in building an interpretive centre. The Prince George Naturalists Club is leading the discussion, but welcome all opinions on the pros and cons of the formative plan.
"The meeting will be of interest not just to current club members, but to potential members and representatives of other groups, who are all welcome to be in attendance and to contribute to the discussion," said Clive Keen.
The discussion is expected to find out if there is the need for such a building and if there is, the possible funding models to construct and operate such a place, what its general scope and purposes might be, and where it might best be located.
If any voting is done on motions about the interpretive centre, only members of the PGNC will be counted.
The other main topic on the Oct. 11 agenda, said Keen, is "enhancing the Hudson's Bay Wetland area, through rehabilitation and creation of a circular walk with a variety of observation features."
This, too, is a major initiative in the public interest, he said. If motions are voted on, again, only club members may do so.
Anyone can join the naturalist club ($25 per person or $40 per family). Application forms will be available at the meeting. It will be held at 7 p.m. in the atrium of the Exploration Place.
