A fire at Canfor's Intercon Pulp Mill was doused by Canfor fire crews and Prince George Fire Rescue Service firefighters working together.
The fire happened shortly before 5:30 p.m., said PGFRS assistant chief Greg Wilkins.
"Nineteen firefighters responded in five trucks to assist Canfor's fire crews to contain the blaze," Wilkins said. "On arrival, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of one of the main buildings, an area where the wood chips feed on a conveyor into the mill. The combined teamwork of Canfor and Prince George Fire Rescue crews made it possible to first hold the fire in check, and then extinguish the fire."
Crews actioned the fire for about two hours before it was deemed out. There were no reported injuries, and a damage estimate is still being determined.
"Canfor personnel are optimistic that production can resume this evening," said Wilkins.
Fire investigators continued on at the scene to determine a cause of the blaze, but that had not been determined as of press time.
