Indoor lacrosse rained out

A leaky Kin 1 arena roof forced cancellation of a Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association game on Thursday night.

A leaky Kin 1 arena roof forced cancellation of a Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association game on Thursday night.

Arenas manager Andy Beesly said the significant rain on Wednesday and Thursday led to moisture dripping onto the floor creating an unsafe condition for the players.

Because of the design of the roof and the insulation, Beesley said it takes about 24 hours to stop leaking, even if it's sunny outside.

"It continues to drip until the insulation and so on is all dried out," he said.

By Friday afternoon it was back to usable.

The future of the roof awaits a decision from City Council on whether to replace Kin 1 or build a new stand-alone arena in time for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

"It is very much in our plans to fix it and we're hoping that the 2015 Games project will address that and if not, the roof needs to be replaced anyway," Beesley said.

Cancellations due to the leaky roof are uncommon, according to Beesley.

"I think last year we canceled zero or one," he said. "It'll withstand a normal rain shower but when it's rainy and windy and the rain blows in odd directions, it seems to get in underneath cracks and so on.

"It's a relatively rare occurrence but when it does happen it's usually Murphy's Law, we've got a big even in there."

The wet floor forced the cancellation of a game between the College Heights Pub Assault and the BX Pub Bandits.
