A new upcoming event, led by a Prince George-based organization, is hoping to give local and regional female entrepreneurs a chance to break barriers.

The LEAP Conference for Women in Business, headed by Community Futures Fraser-Fort George, is scheduled to debut at the end of September and is going online as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LEAP stands for Leadership and Entrepreneur Accelerator Program.

It hopes to help women ‘take the next LEAP forward’ in their business careers, providing tools and knowledge for the workplace.

“We are also extremely excited to be able to offer the conference in a digital format as it enables those who may not otherwise be able to attend the opportunity to participate,” says Community Future Fraser-Fort George General Manager Susan Stearns in a release, which also notes the conference isn’t just for women, but also for men who foster the development of women.

“Our goal with this conference is to provide women throughout northern B.C., and beyond, with knowledge, tools, resources, and connections that they can take away and apply to their day-to-day life.”

The online conference hopes to also reach beyond Prince George and into other corners of the province.

Keynote speakers and exhibitors are set to discuss topics such as:

  • Leadership
  • Gender Inclusivity
  • Breaking into male-dominated sectors
  • Building your personal network
  • Power communications, including negotiations

Funding for the inaugural conference, taking place Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, was provided by Western Economic Diversification.
