As an investigation at the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (IMSS) of Prince George continues into "operational irregularities," the group will present its financial statements to its membership on Feb. 25.

There were no financial statements offered at the IMSS's Jan. 21 annual general meeting, prompting concerned members to vote to create a committee to investigate possible "operational irregularities" within the organization.

IMSS's financial auditor did not attend the annual general meeting held in January because he had the wrong date, said IMSS president Mostafa Mohamed.

"He will definitely be there this time," he said.

"Hopefully this will be a faster and shorter meeting."

The investigative committee had its first meeting with the board Wednesday, he added.

"It took longer than we thought to meet," said Mohamed. "But I believe it went very well."

The committee, which was given three months to complete its work, consists of three members of the society - Jameel Khan, Travis Stringer and Sandy Long - and two members of the public - David Halikowski and Moustafa Beryk.

Long said the committee doing the investigation has done a lot of preparation reading minutes of board meetings from three years back to get a perspective on what action needs to be taken.

"We're pretty hopeful that we can solve many of these problems," said Long. "There is a fix here, it's just a matter of identifying the issues and finding solutions. We just have a lot of work to do. The scope is pretty large and we have no conclusions yet."

The Feb. 25 meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. at IMSS's office located at 1270 Second Ave.
