Impaired driver kills pedestrian

A 20-year-old woman is dead following an early morning hit-and-run in Williams Lake. Shortly after 2 a.m., Williams Lake RCMP received a call that two pedestrians had been struck by a truck on Carson Drive.

A 20-year-old woman is dead following an early morning hit-and-run in Williams Lake.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Williams Lake RCMP received a call that two pedestrians had been struck by a truck on Carson Drive.

When the BC Ambulance Service arrived, one woman was pronounced dead at the scene while a second female, a year younger, is in critical condition and was air lifted to Vancouver General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle, an older model smaller pickup truck, had fled the scene, but was located by RCMP members.

The driver, a 28-year-old male, was arrested for impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm. He remains in custody.

The RCMP Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services is investigating in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service.
