The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is looking into a police-related serious injury that occurred in Prince George early Friday morning.
The IIO said a male fell eight metres down an embankment while being pursued by a police officer who had been called to an Upland Street apartment at about 12:05 a.m.
The male, who the IIO was told by police had left the scene on foot as the officer had arrived, was taken by ambulance to hospital where he remains.
Why police were called to the scene was not provided.
The IIO was notified at 7:30 a.m. and a team of four IIO investigators, including a forensic specialist, were to arrive in Prince George this afternoon and meet with an RCMP liaison officer.
It's the second investigation into a Prince George incident the IIO has launched since it opened its doors on Sept. 10, 2012.
On that day, Greg Matters, a former soldier in the Canadian military who had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, was shot by police following a two-day standoff in Pineview. His family has said he was not armed with a firearm when he was killed.
The IIO's investigation into that incident remains ongoing.
