A team of RCMP watchdogs are returning to the north.

Six members of the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) were deployed to Vanderhoof early Sunday morning after two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to the RCMP, around 4:20 a.m. a Vanderhoof officer saw a vehicle stunting in a parking lot. The vehicle left the scene and was not pursued by the officer.

A short distance away, the officer came across the same vehicle and discovered it had struck a signpost.

The officer spoke briefly with the driver who reportedly fled the scene when the officer checked on the three passengers. BC Ambulance Service paramedics determined two of them had serious injuries and all three were transported to hospital.

The IIO was notified at 6:53 a.m. and should arrive in Vanderhoof this afternoon where they will meet with the RCMP liaison officer and begin the investigation.

On Friday, four IIO investigators arrived in Prince George after a man fell eight metres down an embankment while being pursued by a police officer.
