Ice floe rider and other criminal oddities

Rapper Flo Rida has nothing on Philicity Rhea Lafreniere.

In a desperate bid to avoid arrest in March, the woman jumped onto an actual ice floe and rode it down the Nechako River after breaking into a Miworth home.

The escape failed and she was sentenced to 211 days in jail and two years probation for her troubles.

But she did gain the dubious honour creating the most unusual case to pass through the Prince George courthouse this year.

Bootlegging is back

Also up there was Susan Smith, who was fined $800 for unlawfully selling liquor under the Liquor Control Act.

She was arrested in December after RCMP uncovered a large amount of alcohol in a Redwood Street home.

Stealing from Girl Guides

In the how-low-can-you go department, father Robert Glenn Klyne and son Brady Samuel Klyne were arrested in early July after stealing about $8,000 worth of goods from a Girl Guides camp southeast of Prince George.

Dad was given a short jail term followed by probation and son was sentenced to probation with a conditional discharge.
