We've heard it a thousand times, slow down - the roads are icy.
On Thursday, Prince George ICBC and RCMP made their point with a show-and-tell style test about how driving speed affects the time it takes to stop on icy roads.
RCMP put media in the hot spot by allowing a handful of reporters to travel at speeds of 50 and 70 km/h on the Multiplex parking lot and getting them to stop before hitting a pile of boxes representing a pedestrian.
"What we're looking at is stopping distance in adverse weather conditions," said Sgt. Pat McTiernan, operations NCO for Prince George regional provincial traffic services unit. "Motorists need to know two thing: What does my car do - does it have ABS brakes or doesn't it have ABS? And what are the limitations that I have on my car?"
