ICBC contributed nearly $85,000 to making roads in the Prince George area safer last year.

The Crown corporation's road improvement program provided funds to support three projects in the Prince George area.

ICBC contributed $34,200 to the City of Prince George to install a lighted crosswalk at Massey Drive and Pine Centre Road.

A further $37,000 was contributed to improve road markings along Highway 16 near the airport.

ICBC contributed $13,300 toward the upgrades to Highway 97 from Plett Road to Stone Creek Bridge, south of Red Rock.

According to research done by ICBC on average, two years after an ICBC-funded project is complete, there is a 20 per cent reduction in severe crashes and 12 per cent reduction in fender-benders.

"We care about people's well being and are always looking for new ways to create safer roads," ICBC director of road safety Fiona Temple said in a press release. "Simply put, safer drivers and roads mean fewer crashes, injuries and deaths."
