Lheildi T’enneh has now officially sworn-in its new Chief and council following the April 8 election which saw the Nation elect its first female chief in more than 50 years.

Dolleen Logan, who won her seat with 56.8 per cent of the vote defeating former Chief Clay Pountney, is also the second female Chief to be elected by Lheidli T’enneh following the election of the late Mary Pius.

On Saturday April 24, several Lheidli T’enneh members attended the outdoor swearing-in ceremony held at Ron Seymour Memorial Park in the Northside Subdivision where COVID-19 safety protocols were observed.

Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall and Lheidli member Regina Toth administered the Oath of Office to Chief Dolleen Logan and councillors Helen Buzas, Josh Seymour, Dominic Frederick ‘Domo’, Crystal Gibbs, and Marcel Gagnon. Toth is also the granddaughter of late Chief Mary Pius.

“I am extremely proud to be the second woman Chief in Lheidli T’enneh history. I am honoured to have received the Oath of Office from both Mayor Hall and Regina Toth who is the granddaughter of Mary Pius, Lheidli’s first woman Chief,” said Chief Logan during her first official speech.

“My key message to members is that council’s doors are always open. We will respond to your calls, texts, and emails in a timely fashion.  Council also plans to involve the community in all major decisions and when COVID restrictions are lifted, we will meet regularly with our Elders as we need their input about our future. We all get a say in our what our future looks like. I want to thank our community partners the City of Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. I also want to thank our community for your overwhelming support and the trust you have placed in me as our Chief and the rest of Council. We are here because of you and we will not forget that.”

The Chair of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George Art Kaehn and Administrator Jim Martin also administered the Oath of Office to three members of the Lands Authority Committee during the ceremony including Rena Zatorski, Elaine Gagnon, and Wendy Jael.
