Hutchings' hat-trick propels Capitals to Sunday morning victory

Capitals take two of three games in weekend series with Lakers

The Northern Capitals took on the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers on Sunday morning in Kin 1 in the third of three weekend games between the two teams in BCEHL Female U18AAA action.

The Capitals opened up the scoring with Lindsey Goncalves potting a power-play marker 2:51 into the game. Next, forward Brooklyn Hutchings opened up the floodgates scoring a hat-trick with goals at :57 seconds left in the first period, 7:37 into the second period, and 7:18 left in the second period. Maria Ayre scored a power-play tally of her own opening the scoring in the third period with her goal coming at 1:10 into the frame. Karington Mollin from the Lakers spoiled goaltender Sierra Eagles shut-out netting a goal at 7:00 minutes in the final period. Keira Vermeulen put the game out of reach of the Lakers scoring a short-handed goal with 8:17 left in the game on the way to a 6-1 victory for the Caps.

Sierra Eagles earned the win in between the pipes for the Capitals turning aside 24 of the 25 shots on goal she faced while Chelsea West was in net for the Lakers and she stopped 38 of the 44 shots she faced.

The teams weekend started with a game on Friday evening and the Northern Capitals were victorious with a score of 4-1. Maria Ayre, Jessa Brewer, Hailey Armstrong, and Keagan Goulet were the goal scorers for the Caps. Jaylah Bottle potted the lone marker for the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers. Sierra Eagles earned the win in net for the Caps while Reese Sliskovic was in net for the Lakers.

Overtime was needed to settle the score on Saturday night's game which saw the Capitals lose by a score of 4-3. Jessa Brewer potted a pair of goals, and Maria Ayre got one of her own for the Caps. Cassidy Bank, Natasha Barsby, and Ava Petty scored in regulation time for the Lakers with Karington Mollin scoring the OT winner 1:38 into the extra frame. Karsyn Niven was in net for the Capitals while Chelsea West got the start for the Lakers.

The next action for the Northern Capitals doesn't come until the new year where they will take on the Greater Vancouver Comets on January 15th and 16th. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval - North on the 15th and puck drop is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval - South on the 16th.
