RCMP are investigating the death of a 59-year-old American man who was the victim of a shooting incident in a remote area south of Houston.

RCMP are investigating the death of a 59-year-old American man who was the victim of a shooting incident in a remote area south of Houston.

Police were called to the scene in the Tahtsa Reach Forest Service area 112 kilometres south of the community on Monday afternoon.

The man had been bear hunting with guides and all parties involved in the incident have been spoken to by police, RCMP said in a statement issued Wednesday.

The man's family has been notified with the help of authorities in Washington state said police, who have declined to release his name.

The North District RCMP's major crime and forensic identification units have been brought in to help Houston RCMP with the investigation. The B.C. Coroners Service is also conducting an investigation into the death.
