Human remains have been found in an area just off the Greenway Trail.
The remains were found by two hikers on Monday afternoon and members of the Prince George RCMP's serious crime unit, police dog service, forensic identification and general duty members were called to the scene, Cpl. Craig Douglass said.
"A portion of the trail system will be closed while investigators search for more evidence," Douglass said. "The Prince George RCMP are asking trail users to consider avoiding the area over the next two days."
The 25-kilometre trail is located west of Tyner Boulevard and connects the Otway Nordic Centre to Forests for the World. It also includes extensions from Forests to UNBC and to Highway 16 West.
"At this time, the Prince George RCMP are able to confirm that the remains are human," Douglass said.
"Investigators are working with the B.C. Coroners Service and other partners to determine more details about the remains including the identity and the cause of death.
"Due to the level of decomposition, it appears that the remains have been there for a significant amount of time."
