Huble Homestead Historic Site opens Saturday for its summer-long season.

Because of its wide open spaces, Huble Homestead is an ideal place to visit during the pandemic.

Although public events are still on hold, there is a full schedule of programing that is educational, COVID-friendly and fun.

Programs include self-led activities, craft kits, guided tours and physically distanced games.

The historic site is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The General Store hosts a concession featuring a barbecue lunch while inside the store there are locally made items for sale, old fashioned candy, pie, ice cream treats and the park has enough space perfect for picnics and lawn games and guests are always welcome to visit the chickens and rabbits, too.

Guests are required to wear masks in all indoor spaces at the historic site and the General Store and Huble house are subject to occupancy limits. Visitors will continue to have access to increased hand washing stations and sanitizer.

“We’ve worked hard to reevaluate the measures we took last year and update them for another safe season, and we look forward to the cooperation of our guests with our requirements,” Krystal Leason, executive director of the Huble Homestead/Gisome Portage Society, said. “I’m optimistic we can continue to entertain and educate our community through another pandemic summer.”

Huble Homestead Historic Site is located 40 km north of Prince George, just off Highway 97 on Mitchell Road. The site will be open daily until Sept. 6. Admission is by donation. Dogs are welcome.
