For the first time in almost 45 years, Prince George will not be celebrating Canada Day at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.
The annual event was cancelled because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
However, there are still a few things happening to help you celebrate Canada's 153rd birthday on Wednesday, July 1.
National Virtual Canada Day Celebrations
On July 1, Canadians from coast to coast to coast are invited to take part in an array of virtual celebrations to express our national pride.
The celebrations include a morning show called Canada Day Across the Country which will be available on Canadian Heritage’s digital platforms.
The Canada Day Daytime Show brings you a virtual tour of the festivities. Hosts Serena Ryder and Pierre-Yves Lord take a trip to meet talented artists from Yellowknife, Calgary, Winnipeg, Sudbury, Montréal, Québec City and Moncton.
There will also be an evening show called Canada Day Together with Ryder and Lord featuring artists in Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver.
The night will conclude with highlights of the best Canada fireworks from previous years.

Canada Day Car Parades
Volunteers have started throwing birthday car parades to cheer up those who are celebrating during the pandemic. (via Hanna Petersen)The COVID-19 PG Volunteer Car Parades Group, who have been helping folks celebrate birthdays and special events throughout the pandemic, are gathering the vehicles and banners to celebrate Canada Day.
The Canada Day city parade will start at 1 p.m. in the Hart.
Those wanting to participate in the parade can meet at the old Wildwood Elementary School along Frontage Road at 12:45 p.m.
A full parade route will be posted closer to Canada Day.
The group has already organized over 450 celebration parades and Canada Day will mark the final parade as the parades are winding down and the group is no longer taking new requests.
Huble Homestead Historic Site
The Huble Homestead is celebrating Canada Day all week.
Ask upon arrival for your "passport" any day until Friday (July 3) and travel around the historic site to “visit” every province and territory!
The site is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a guided or self-guided tour.
You can also enjoy lunch, collect some Canada Day swag, play lawn games or just relax!
Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum
The Forestry Museum will also be open for Canada Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission will be by donation since access to rail cars and buildings remains limited due to COVID-19.
You can participate in a self-led activity or enjoy a walk among industry "giants" of local history.
Bring your own picnic and blanket or indulge in our BBQ Concession which will be available to purchase between 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The museum is also hosting a Canada Day colouring contest for the kids!
Exploration Place Great Canadian Flag Contest
While Exploration Place will not be open for Canada Day, the museum and science centre is celebrating with the Great Canadian Flag Contest.
How it works: Download and print out a flag template to design your own Canada Day Flag that celebrates nature in our country.
You can then submit your entry by email and the Exploration Place will hang it up in the atrium window.
Three winners will receive some cuddly prizes.
