There were starts on 22 single-detached homes in and around Prince George last month, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
That's well up from just nine during the same month last year and raises the year-to-date total to 93, compared to 109 by the same point last year.
Both figures remain significantly below the peak of 239 starts seen by the same point in 2007 before the recession took hold.
Looking at multiple family, there were starts on two units last month, the same as in September 2012, increasing the year-to-date total to 61, compared to 45 by the third-quarter mark last year.
