House starts reaches 11

Starts on single-family homes stood at 11 in Prince George for the first three months of the year according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation numbers released this week.

Starts on single-family homes stood at 11 in Prince George for the first three months of the year according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation numbers released this week.

The total is ahead of the five reached by the same point last year, thanks to eight starts last month compared to just two during March 2011, which builders blamed on an extended winter.

However, this year's total remains below the 18 reached over the first quarter of 2010.

There have been starts on four units of multiple family housing this year, compared to 36 by the same point in 2011 when work on the seniors complex next to the Commonwealth Health Centre downtown began.
